About Me
I started teaching when I had a child and discovered that children and teenagers were much more fun and interesting than adults. I love to teach. I also like to learn new things. If I don’t know something I’ll try to find out about it. Once I know something new, I will try to teach someone else about it, even if they aren’t interested at first.
I like animals and being in nature. I've spent time sleeping in tiny tents in the rain forests of Brazil, Costa Rica, and Indonesia. The nights were full of strange sounds and enormous insects.
My mother is Italian and my family was in the military. I was born in Italy and lived in Europe until I was fifteen. I have traveled throughout Asia and South America. I hope one day to live in Africa.
When I went to the university I studied theatre and filmmaking as well as literature. I also like science, so I took classes on astronomy and ecology. I still take classes at the university. I recently took a science class on the ear. I used to teach science to small children and once won an award from the National Weather Association.
I read every day. My favorite authors include Charles Dickens, Franz Kafka, Jane Austen, and Flannery O'Connor. I read classics but I also like to read science fiction, fantasy, and mysteries. The first book I ever read was One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. I couldn’t really read. I memorized the words and said them as I turned the pages. Everyone was fooled.
